Custom Pool Construction in Tucson: Timeline & Process Guide for 2026

Valley Oasis Pools offers bespoke custom pool construction in Tucson, AZ. Our pool building process is carefully planned to ensure exceptional craftsmanship, efficient project management, and a finished pool designed to last for decades. Here’s a closer look at what to expect during your 2026 pool installation project.

Initial Consultation for Swimming Pool Design in Tucson

We begin with a new pool design consultation at your home. This process is necessary to evaluate your goals, timeline, installation site, and budget. During the consultation, we will:

  • Discuss your dream vision for your pool and overall outdoor living space
  • Gain insight into your lifestyle, routine, and how you will use your pool
  • Go over your design ideas and budget
  • Walk you through our timeline and portfolio
  • Analyze your yard, measure its slope, assess your soil, determine access points and utility lines, and evaluate sun exposure

Material Selection

You will then begin material selection and determine which pool amenities and features you want to integrate. You will need to choose the type and design of your pool tile, finishing, decking, lights, stairs, and more. We can also guide you in choosing modern pool features like sun shelves, massage jets, water and fire features, and other amenities.

3D Rendering and Finalization

Then we will create a detailed, 3D digital rendering of your pool design so that you can visualize the pool and how it will look against your home’s architecture and your landscaping. Once you have finalized the design, we can draw up a detailed scope of work and budget.

Permitting

When the designs are complete and the contract is signed, we’ll move on to the permitting phase. Our structural engineers will submit all required plans and paperwork to the relevant city or municipal agency. This is required for structural, electrical, and plumbing work. When permits are issued, we can move on to the next phase. Permitting timelines can vary depending on the municipality, project complexity, and current agency backlog, but this phase typically takes several weeks.

Site Preparation and Excavation

Depending on the installation location, site preparation may take a week or longer. We may need to grade the yard and/or remove obstacles like weeds, plants, rocks, etc. We will also have to map utility lines and complete layout and stakeout of your pool design.Because Tucson’s desert climate and monsoon weather patterns can affect pool construction, our team carefully evaluates drainage, soil stability, and sun exposure during the planning phase. When this is done, we’ll use heavy machinery to dig out the earth to the depth and dimensions of the pool. This part of the process only takes one to three days.

Steel, Plumbing, and Electrical Work

Our team will then create a grid of steel rebar to create the structural foundation of the pool. This may take one or two days. When that is complete, our contractors will begin plumbing, equipment connections, and electrical rough-ins. This could take between one and two weeks.

Pool Shell and Curing

Once the frame is installed and plumbing and electrical work is complete, we can lay the pool shell. We will use specialized equipment to spray high-velocity shotcrete or gunite onto the steel frame. This will be hand-troweled to build the pool shell. The concrete application process only takes a day, but the shell must cure for 28 days to ensure strength and structural stability.

Tile, Coping, and Decking

When the shell has cured, we’ll begin the process of installing waterline tile and coping. We will then construct the surrounding patio area or deck. This part of the process can take between one to three weeks.

Finishing, Filling, and Testing

Finally, we’ll complete pool finishing. We will apply interior plaster and quartz, pebble, or other materials to create a waterproof finish. This only takes one or two days. Then we’ll fill the pool so that the interior finish cures properly under pressure. Then we will inspect and test all elements and equipment to ensure it is working properly.

While every custom pool project is unique, most pool construction projects in Tucson take approximately 8–14 weeks after permitting, depending on design complexity, weather conditions, material availability, and custom features.
